Set your thermostat to 68 degrees.

Install a programmable thermostat.

Replace or clean HVAC filters once a month.

Reduce hot water temperature.

Close off unoccupied rooms of the house.

Check your ducts for leaks, and separation.

Repair leaky faucets.

install aerators on faucets, and low flow shower heads.

Insulate your water heater.

Flush out the sediment in your water heater.

Be sure your dishwasher is full before turning it on.

Let the dishes "air dry" instead of the heat dry.

Turn off the lights in the rooms you are not using.

Replace bulbs with more energy efficient ones.

On outdoor lights use a photocell, timer, or motion sensor. (there are also
very good solar lights on the market now for free lighting).

Install ceiling fans to move air.

Clean the coils on your fridge.

Turn off the "moisture setting" on the refrigerator. (this is generally for
humid climates, and has no benefit in our dry climate).

Allow hot food to cool on the counter before putting it in the fridge.

Use the microwave instead. (Microwave ovens use up to 75% less energy).
